Domus Esquilina is a modern hostel set in a late-19th-century Umbertine palazzo just steps from Piazza Vittorio and Termini station. The four- to eight-bed dorms have bunk beds with privacy curtains, reading lights, USB sockets and padlocked lockers, while the private rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning. The shared spaces are the true heart of the place: a fully equipped kitchen, a lounge with board games and a rooftop terrace where an aperitivo is held every evening.
The location is ideal if you arrive by train or want to get around by metro: lines A and B are a five-minute walk away, and the Piazza Vittorio market is just around the corner. The young, multilingual staff run free walking tours and themed evenings.

Prima hostel op loopafstand van Termini. De bedden in de slaapzaal hebben gordijntjes en een eigen stopcontact, en de badkamers werden twee keer per dag schoongemaakt. De gratis wandeltour op zondagochtend was echt de moeite waard. De keuken is klein maar goed uitgerust. Wel wat gehorig door de straat, maar dat hoort erbij in deze buurt.
Sono stato una settimana a Roma per un corso e ho scelto la Domus Esquilina per il prezzo. Mi ha sorpreso: la terrazza al tramonto è bellissima, la lavanderia costa poco e la camera quadrupla con i miei amici era spaziosa. Lo staff ci ha fatto conservare i bagagli fino a sera senza problemi. Unico neo, l'ascensore lento nelle ore di punta.
Dormí en la habitación femenina de seis camas y estaba limpia, con baño renovado y aire acondicionado que funcionaba de verdad. El personal de recepción nos ayudó con el equipaje y nos recomendó una trattoria estupenda cerca de Piazza Vittorio. La cocina común está algo justa por la mañana, pero la terraza compensa. Muy cómodo para llegar desde Termini con las maletas.
Das Hostel ist sauber und die Lage direkt beim Bahnhof ist praktisch, wenn man früh weiter muss. Unser Zweibettzimmer war klein, hatte aber ein eigenes Bad und eine gute Klimaanlage. Nachts hörte man den Verkehr auf der Straße recht deutlich, das sollte man wissen. Frühstück gibt es nicht, dafür eine Küche und günstigen Kaffee an der Bar.
Stayed four nights in the eight-bed dorm. Beds had curtains and a proper reading light, which made a real difference, and the lockers fit a full backpack. The rooftop aperitivo was a lovely way to meet people. The street can be noisy at night, so bring earplugs, but for the price and the five-minute walk to the metro I cannot complain.
